Oshi No Ko Film Set to Premiere in 51 Countries Worldwide; Producer Reflects on Box Office Performance

The highly anticipated Oshi No Ko – The Final Act film, the latest adaptation of Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari’s hit manga, is set to premiere in 51 countries worldwide. This marks a significant milestone for the Oshi No Ko franchise, which has already garnered immense success with its live-action TV series and anime adaptation. The film serves as a sequel to the live-action drama released on Amazon Prime Video, with Toei planner and producer Ryuusuke Imoto sharing insights on the film’s release and the challenges faced along the way.

Oshi No Ko’s Massive Global Reach and International Appeal

The film will be available in 51 countries globally starting December 25, 2024, following its domestic release. Imoto expressed excitement about the project’s ongoing international expansion, emphasizing how Amazon helped distribute the drama series across 200 countries. He mentioned that the film’s release strategy considers how audiences in various countries will engage with the film, noting that the project is still evolving.

The Oshi No Ko franchise has proven to be a massive mixed-media success, blending the anime, live-action drama, and manga adaptations to create an expansive world beloved by fans worldwide. Amazon Prime Video played a key role in helping the Oshi No Ko TV drama break records, setting a new 30-day viewership record for an Amazon-original Japanese series.

Producer’s Reflections on the Challenges of Adapting Oshi No Ko

During an interview with Eiga.com, Ryuusuke Imoto and PR producer Terashima discussed the challenges of adapting the beloved series for both small and big screens. Imoto acknowledged that while the team is happy with the public’s reaction, there are still aspects of the film’s release that they wish could have been handled differently. One key area of reflection is the underwhelming box office performance of the film.

Imoto mentioned, “One thing we regret is that we wish we had been able to connect this social media success to box office sales a little more.” The film debuted in 7th place, earning just 135 million yen (~$875k) during its opening weekend. Imoto emphasized that while it’s not yet time to analyze the box office results fully, the team is committed to learning from this experience to improve future releases.

The Future of Oshi No Ko and Lessons Learned

For Terashima, the biggest lesson was how timing and communication are crucial when adapting a series of this magnitude. He explained, “There are people who are doing their best, but if we use the wrong words, those efforts may go unnoticed.” Adapting to the times, understanding what to release when, and maintaining open communication with fans were all highlighted as key takeaways.

Imoto also acknowledged the difficulties of adapting such a popular manga while staying true to the original content. With fan concerns about unfaithful adaptations, the team worked closely with the original creators, Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari, to ensure that the Oshi No Ko live-action series would stay faithful to the manga’s core elements.

Where to Watch Oshi No Ko

  • The Oshi No Ko live-action drama is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
  • The Oshi No Ko anime is available on HIDIVE.
  • The Oshi No Ko manga is available on Manga PLUS.

The series follows the reincarnated twin babies of pop idol Ai, Aqua and Ruby, as they navigate the cutthroat entertainment industry and uncover the mysteries surrounding their mother’s tragic death. With its compelling storylines and engaging characters, Oshi No Ko continues to captivate audiences across multiple platforms.

Dragon Ball Super to Return With Special Trunks One-Shot in February 2025

Dragon Ball Super is making a highly anticipated return this February with a special one-shot centered around Trunks. This exciting news was announced via the Dragon Ball website's latest installment of the Toyotarou Tried To Draw series. The V Jump April edition, set to release on February 20, 2025, will feature this special one-shot revival of the Dragon Ball Super manga. The storyline will dive into Trunks’ journey and reveal why he chose to become a hero as part of the Saiyaman X team. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the release!

Toyotarou Tried To Draw is a special series where Dragon Ball Super co-creator Toyotarou showcases his art, often inspired by the iconic style of Akira Toriyama. These drawings aren't just limited to Dragon Ball, but also extend to Toriyama’s other works like Nekomajin, Dr. Slump, Dub & Peter 1, Chokin Senshi Cashman, and even Dragon Quest, where Toriyama contributed his unique character designs. In the January edition of Toyotarou Tried To Draw, the focus was on Dragon Ball’s Captain Chicken, a lesser-known character from the series.

You can view Toyotarou’s black-and-white art of Captain Chicken below.

As detailed on the Dragon Ball website, Captain Chicken made an appearance in the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai, a tournament set ten years after Majin Buu’s defeat. Despite his prominence in the event, his true abilities remain a mystery, as the battles after Goku’s match with Uub are never fully shown. Toyotarou speculates that Captain Chicken might be more powerful than he appears. He humorously suggests, “Maybe he’s involved in the same kind of superhero activities as the Saiyamen!”

Trunks’ Return in Dragon Ball Super

At least one member of the Saiyaman team, Trunks, will be the central focus of the Dragon Ball Super manga’s return. The series has been on a hiatus since March 2024, following the tragic passing of Akira Toriyama. In his final correction to the Dragon Ball Super manga, Toriyama added a deeply emotional scene where Piccolo turns back one last time to say goodbye to Pan’s kindergarten teacher, a moment that Toyotarou later reflected on as a meaningful tribute.

"I didn’t draw Piccolo with that intention," Toyotarou shared on X (formerly Twitter). "But I can’t help but add another layer of meaning to it. Thank you very much, Mr. Toriyama. It was a miracle to work with you for nine years. I pray for your soul to rest in peace."

While an official date for the return of Dragon Ball Super serialization has yet to be announced, Toyotarou has expressed excitement about the future. After the success of the “Goku’s Best Bout Poll” in August 2024, where fans overwhelmingly voted for the Moro fight arc, Toyotarou promised even more thrilling battles for fans to enjoy. “I plan to keep coming up with exciting new arcs, so I hope you all will continue to follow my work!” he said.

How to Read Dragon Ball Super

New Soccer Manga "Embers" by Former BLUE LOCK Assistant Begins in Weekly Shonen Jump

New Soccer Manga "Embers" by Former BLUE LOCK Assistant Begins in Weekly Shonen Jump

A highly anticipated soccer manga titled Embers will begin serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on February 3, 2025. This new series, written by Kei Kurumazaki and illustrated by Sotaro Nishi, is gaining attention for its connection to the BLUE LOCK franchise. Nishi, who previously worked as an assistant on BLUE LOCK and Wistoria: Wand and Sword, brings his expertise and dynamic style to this fresh, exciting title. The new soccer manga will also be available on the MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA platform for global readers.

Embers: A New Soccer Rivalry Begins

The Embers manga follows the story of Haitani, a delinquent known for being the strongest brawler at his school, who unexpectedly finds himself introduced to the world of soccer. The manga's first chapter will be 54 pages long, with the debut issue featuring a color spread to kick off the new series. With its dynamic illustrations and intense sports action, Embers is already being promoted as a major new series for Weekly Shonen Jump.

Praise from BLUE LOCK Creators

The connection to BLUE LOCK is evident, with Yusuke Numura, the artist of BLUE LOCK, praising Sotaro Nishi as a “terrifying talent.” In an X post, Numura joked about Nishi’s ability to “crush” the competition, emphasizing the exciting potential of this new soccer series. He encouraged fans to check out Embers when it launches next week.

Similarly, Toshi Aoi, the artist of the Wistoria: Wand and Sword manga adaptation, also expressed excitement for Nishi’s debut series. Aoi referred to Nishi as an "ace" and shared one of Nishi’s background illustrations, highlighting the significant role the artist played in creating visually compelling scenes.

What to Expect from Embers

While BLUE LOCK has set a high bar as one of the most popular soccer manga and anime franchises, Embers offers something fresh. Unlike BLUE LOCK, which emphasizes a "battle manga" approach to soccer, Embers will likely explore different aspects of the sport. Given the tactical depth of soccer, it will be interesting to see how Embers develops its soccer themes and how it may stand out in the competitive shonen manga market.

Embers in a New Era of Shonen Soccer Manga

With recent high-profile series like My Hero Academia, JUJUTSU KAISEN, and Mission: Yozakura Family coming to an end, Weekly Shonen Jump is focusing on launching new titles, and Embers is a major part of this strategy. The addition of Embers suggests that there’s still strong demand for shonen soccer manga series, and it’s poised to become a key player in this niche genre.

Amen Thompson Emerging as Future Star for Houston Rockets

Amen Thompson has recently shown signs of becoming a franchise-altering player for the Houston Rockets. With seconds remaining in a heated game against the Boston Celtics, the second-year guard showcased his clutch ability. Thompson grabbed the inbound pass, navigated through the defense, and made a stunning step-back jumper over Jaylen Brown, giving Houston a thrilling victory with just 0.7 seconds left.

Thompson finished the game with an impressive 33 points on 68% shooting, along with nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal and block each. The performance encapsulated what has been a standout season for Thompson, full of diverse and impactful contributions across multiple stat lines.

“That felt great,” Thompson said during the postgame broadcast, while teammate Dillon Brooks chimed in, confident the shot would land. “I knew it would fall, that was my first game-winner, I feel like Kobe Bryant.”

The comparison to Kobe Bryant is fitting, as Thompson’s growing confidence and poise are rapidly making him a key player for the Rockets.

Amen Thompson’s Rise as a Key Player for the Houston Rockets

Drafted as the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, behind stars like Victor Wembanyama, Brandon Miller, and Scoot Henderson, Thompson was somewhat overshadowed at first. The attention around the NBA Draft focused heavily on the top picks, and within his own team, the Rockets' young core—featuring talented players like Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green, and Jabari Smith Jr.—meant Thompson blended in for much of his rookie season.

Now, Thompson is emerging as a central figure for Houston.

In his last 10 games, Thompson has averaged 18.8 points on 57% shooting, alongside 11 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. His performance has moved him from a complementary piece to the Rockets’ future franchise player. His tenacity on defense, particularly on the wing, has earned him attention for Defensive Player of the Year honors, as he continues to shut down some of the league’s most talented players.

Amen Thompson’s Athleticism Fuels His Game

Defenders are well aware of Thompson's offensive limitations, but there's little they can do to stop his transition game and powerful downhill drives to the basket. While some young players experience a sophomore slump, Thompson’s innate athleticism and high basketball IQ have kept his growth steady, and he's continuing to make a significant impact.

Since joining the Rockets’ starting lineup, the team has posted an impressive 12-3 record, recently winning consecutive games against both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. As it stands, Thompson looks poised to hold down the starting role for the foreseeable future.

The Future is Bright for Amen Thompson

At just 21 years old (with his 22nd birthday coming this Thursday), the sky is the limit for Thompson. His game is only expected to improve with more experience, especially in areas like offensive efficiency and playmaking. One of the key concerns about his game entering the league—his 3-point shooting—has already seen considerable improvement in his second year, and his shooting volume has also increased.

As Thompson continues to develop, it’s clear that he could become one of the NBA’s superstars, with his growing skill set and leadership on both sides of the ball. If he maintains his current trajectory, it won’t be long before the phrase “superstar” is used to describe Amen Thompson in Houston.

Selena Gomez Shares Tearful Video Responding to Trump Immigration Policies

Selena Gomez recently shared an emotional, tear-filled video on her Instagram story expressing her concerns over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. The video quickly went viral, with the Grand Prairie-raised actress visibly upset as she spoke out about the immigration crisis and its devastating effects on children.

“I just want to say that I’m so sorry,” Gomez said, wiping away her tears as she spoke. Her Instagram story included an emoji with a Mexican flag, symbolizing her solidarity with the immigrant community.

“All my people are getting attacked — the children. I don’t understand,” Gomez continued. “I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do.”

In a follow-up Instagram post, Selena Gomez wrote, “Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people,” reflecting her frustration over the growing division in political discourse surrounding immigration policies. By late afternoon, both her posts were removed from her Instagram account.

Immigration Enforcement Actions Prompt Protests in North Texas

The same day, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained 84 individuals in North Texas, citing their varying degrees of criminal activity. The ramped-up enforcement efforts sparked widespread protests in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with many residents voicing opposition to the increased deportations.

Backlash to Selena Gomez's Post on Immigration

Gomez's heartfelt posts did not go unnoticed, sparking both support and criticism. TV personality Piers Morgan voiced his disapproval on social media, accusing the singer of celebrity narcissism for showing sympathy towards those being deported. He posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Posting yourself weeping over illegal immigrant criminals being deported is a new level of absurd celebrity narcissism.”

Selena Gomez’s Personal Connection to Immigration

Selena Gomez has been vocal about her personal connection to immigration issues. In a 2019 op-ed for Time magazine, she revealed that her grandparents were undocumented immigrants who crossed the southern border from Mexico into the United States. She has consistently advocated for immigrant rights, as shown by her role as a producer for the Netflix documentary series Living Undocumented, which follows the lives of eight undocumented families at risk of deportation.

“Immigration goes beyond politics and headlines. It is a human issue, affecting real people, dismantling real lives,” Gomez wrote in the op-ed. “How we deal with it speaks to our humanity, empathy, and compassion. How we treat our fellow human beings defines who we are.”

Controversy Surrounding Selena Gomez’s Role in Emilia Pérez

Recently, Selena Gomez has also made headlines for her portrayal of Emilia Pérez in a musical crime film about a trans Mexican drug kingpin. The film, which garnered critical acclaim at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, was awarded Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. However, the film has faced backlash, particularly within the Mexican community, due to concerns about its portrayal of cartel violence and casting choices.

Some critics have questioned Gomez’s Spanish fluency and the authenticity of the film’s depiction of Mexican culture. "Selena Gomez spoke such bad Spanish. There are certain expressions we don't use in Mexico," said moviegoer Dora Pancardo, commenting on the film after a screening in Mexico City. Film critic Ana Iribe also took to X to express concerns about the lack of research in the making of Emilia Pérez.
