The Haikyuu!! franchise has unveiled a thrilling new chapter with the upcoming stage play GEKIDAN “HAIKYU!!” ENCOUNTER. Featuring an intense battle between Karasuno High School and Nekoma High School — also known as the epic Dumpster Battle — this live-action production promises to bring the electrifying volleyball action to the stage. The Haikyuu!! stage play will run from May 30 to June 1, 2025, and the visual, trailer, and complete cast lineup have now been revealed, exciting anime fans worldwide.
Haikyuu!! stage play director Kenta Suga, who previously portrayed Shoyo Hinata in the first Haikyuu!! stage play series, returns to helm this highly anticipated performance. Suga also directed the inaugural production, GEKIDAN “HAIKYU!!”, which debuted in Tokyo in August 2023. The GEKIDAN “HAIKYU!!” ENCOUNTER script is written by Masami Ito, with Shunsuke Wada composing the music and HIDALI in charge of choreography and staging, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for both Haikyuu!! fans and stage play enthusiasts.

Following the success of Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu!!, which ran from November 2015 to May 2021, the Gekidan Haikyu!! theater company was created to bring even more action-packed Haikyuu!! experiences to life. This latest live-action production builds upon the global success of the Haikyuu!! anime and manga.
The Haikyuu!! franchise, created by Haruichi Furudate, began as a serialized manga in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020, concluding with 405 chapters compiled into 45 volumes. The manga has been licensed in English by Viz Media. Meanwhile, Production I.G has been behind the stunning animation of both the Haikyuu!! movie and TV anime series. The first season aired in 2014, followed by the second in Fall 2015. Season 3, which focused on the dramatic Karasuno vs. Shiratorizawa match, ran in Fall 2016, while Haikyuu!! To the Top (Season 4) aired across two cours in 2020. The Haikyuu!! anime has since continued to grow in popularity with a range of anime recap movies, OVA releases, side stories, stage plays, and video games.
For fans eager to dive into the action, Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle began streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix on October 31, bringing the iconic rivalry to even more global audiences.
