On October 4, an uncut version of Kitaro Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo (Biro Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe) would be shown in Japanese theatres. The updated version of the film will feature 327 edited retakes and rerecorded audio, and it "reflects production staff’s original vision." The new picture will be designated R15, which is a higher age classification than the PG12 original, which debuted on November 17, 2023.
Under Gou Koga's direction, Toei Animation produced the animation for the movie. Toko Yatabe designed the characters, while Hiroyuki Yoshino authored the screenplay. Sayoko Yokoyama handled colour design, Tomoyuki Ishiyama handled photography, Mai Ichioka handled art direction, and Kenji Kawai handled music composition. The ensemble for the anime movie included:

The 2018 GeGeGe no Kitaro anime series ran for 97 episodes from April 2018 to March 2022. The events of the series were chronicled in the anime film Kitarou Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll, which describes it as:

The creator of the horror and supernatural comic manga series GeGeGe no Kitaro is Shigeru Mizuki. It was serialised in Kodansha's Shonen Magazine Comics from 1960 to 1969. Numerous anime versions were created between 1968 and 2018; all were made by Toei Animation and aired on Fuji Television.
