Along with an English-subbed trailer, the Ranma 1/2 remake has revealed a weekly release schedule on Netflix, beginning on October 5. With cast commentary and images, they recently presented the members of the Tendo Family. Watch the English-subbed trailer below. Studio MAPPA is doing the animation.
More than 30 years have passed since the conclusion of the first anime adaptation. The news was made soon after the conclusion of the rerun of URUSEI YATSURA, another adaptation of the renowned mangaka Rumiko Takahashi. In July, they unveiled the cast, trailer, and first image.
After URUSEI YATSURA and Maison Ikkoku, Rumiko started the Ranma 1/2 as her third major series in August 1987. Up until March 1996, the manga was published in serial form in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. It lasted for a whole of 407 chapters, which were compiled into 38 volumes. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English, describing the story:
After taking a surprise dip in a cursed spring while on a training journey in China, martial artist Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, aren’t quite themselves anymore. Now Ranma turns into a girl whenever he’s splashed with cold water, and Genma turns into a panda! Their new forms cause nothing but confusion at the Tendo dojo, where Soun Tendo is waiting to introduce one of his three daughters to Ranma—as his fiancée! Turns out Genma and Soun arranged the match long ago, but the girl, Akane, and the boy, Ranma, aren’t exactly crazy about the idea, or each other! Or are they? Watch the gender switching, jealous rages, and martial arts battles unfold all over again!
Previously, Studio Deen turned the manga into two anime series: Ranma 1/2 and Ranma 1/2 Nettohen. Together, the two anime series aired 161 episodes from 1989 and 1992. It also released three films and twelve OVAs. 2011 saw the release of a live-action TV special for the franchise. Earlier this month, there were significant Netflix leaks that included the new anime.
