An original animation with a fishing theme is called Negative Positive Angler. It centres on a young man who has lived a reclusive, depressed existence apart from society, and it tracks how he transforms as a result of his interactions with other people and fishing. The complete synopsis is available below:
A college student named Tsunehiro Sasaki, burdened with a large
debt, is given only two years to live by his doctor. He spends his days
in depression.
One day, while being chased by debt
collectors, he falls into the sea and is rescued by a girl named Hana,
who loves fishing, and her fishing friends, including Takaki. At Hana’s
suggestion, Tsunehiro experiences fishing for the first time in his life
and begins to deepen his friendship with the fishing group.
He
also starts working part-time at the convenience store where Hana and
Takaaki work. Though he struggles with the unfamiliar fishing
terminology and the smell of raw bait, he gradually becomes hooked on
fishing. The feeling of a catch transmitted to his hands is a sense of
living. A life that has been falling and only looking up at the world
doesn’t change easily.
What is it that Tsunehiro finds through fishing…?
