The anime is being directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, who is also writing the screenplay. Sayaka Ono is in charge of the animation direction and character designs. The soundtrack is being composed by Yuki Hayashi. The remaining members of the anime cast are:

  • Akira Sekine as Elfaria Alvis Serfort

The same-titled manga series by Fujino Omori, illustrated by Toshi Aoi, served as the inspiration for The Wistoria: Wand and Sword. Since December 2020, the series has been serialised in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine; there are presently nine volumes available.

The first volume of the manga series is described as follows by Kodansha USA, who licences it for use in North America:

RISE OF THE NO-TALENT Will Serfort dreams of keeping his promise to a childhood friend by becoming a Magia Vander, one of the mighty magicians who sit atop the Wizard’s Tower. However, he is unable to cast even the simplest of spells, leaving him to fight dungeon monsters to earn credits at Regarden Magical Academy. As if that weren’t enough, he finds himself putting his sword skills to the test against a bullying professor!
