Ahead of its October 4 premiere date, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online Season 2 unveiled a new trailer and key image at today's Aniplex Online Fest. The adaptation is being animated by Studio A-1 Pictures, who previously owned Studio 3Hz. Yosuke Kuroda is responsible for the series composition, Yoshio Kozakai is the character designer, and Masayuki Sakoi is the director. The rest of the staff is unchanged. The new trailer includes ReoNa "GG"'s opening theme song:

The principal ensemble is coming back:

  • Yoko Hikasa as Pitohui
  • Tomori Kusunoki as LLENN
  • Kazuyuki Okitsu as M
  • Chinatsu Akasaki as Miyu Shinohara/Fukaziroh

Dengeki Maoh magazine published by ASCII MediaWorks serialised a manga adaptation with illustrations by Tadadi Tamori from 2015 to 2021. Compilation was done in four volumes. Yen Press, who licensed the manga as well, outlines the story as follows:

Karen Kohiruimaki always felt out of place in the real world. Due to her extreme height, she found it hard to make friends with other girls her age. Everything changes when she’s introduced to VR and Gun Gale Online. In GGO, Karen is free to play the cute, chibi avatar of her dreams! Can Karen find friendship in this bullet-ridden MMO…?

Twelve episodes from the first season broadcast in the spring of 2018. A sequel was revealed in July of last year. The anime adapts the light novel Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online by Reki Kawahara and Keiichi Sigsawa (licensed in English by Yen Press). The Dengeki Bunko imprint is still in use for the light novel.
