New Anime Undead Unluck Set for Winter 2025

 An hour-long special of a new anime, Undead Unluck, will debut in late 2025. The term "Winter 2025" was used in the Japanese announcement, although it appears to be a reference to the end of the year rather than the future anime season that fans of the season might be more familiar with. TMS Entertainment provided the explanation, stating that the official release window is later in the year.

A significant news was originally hinted at in the anime for August 1, the day Andy and Fuko initially met. The teaser trailer for the upcoming anime, which will be animated by Studio David Production again, can be seen below.

Kenichiro Suehiro, the music composer, Hideyuki Morioka, the character designer, and Yuki Yase, the director, will all be returning from the TV anime to work as special crew members on Undead Unluck. The anime is being produced by TMS's UNLIMITED PRODUCE.

It's an adaptation of the Undead Unluck manga written and drawn by Yoshifumi Tozuka, who Anime Corner recently had the opportunity to speak with. As of May 2024, Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has published 21 volumes of the serialised work. VIZ, who has the English licence for the manga, explains the plot as follows:

What happens when an unlucky girl meets an undead guy? Pure chaos! Tired of inadvertently killing people with her special ability Unluck, Fuuko Izumo sets out to end it all. But when she meets Andy, a man who longs for death but can’t die, she finds a reason to live—and he finds someone capable of giving him the death he’s been longing for. All Fuuko wants is a whirlwind romance like the one in her favorite shojo manga. Unfortunately, her Unluck ability makes that impossible. But just as Fuuko hits rock bottom, Andy sweeps her off her feet—literally! Now she’s become Andy’s unwilling test subject as he works to find a way to trigger a stroke of Unluck big enough to kill him for good. However, when the pair discovers a secret organization is hunting them, it puts Andy’s burial plans on hold.
