You can watch the trailer here:

The show is being directed by Akira Iwanaga at Asread studio, who worked with WHITE FOX to animate the first season. Returning to manage and write the series scripts is Shoichi Sato. Once more, Chika Kojima is in charge of both character design and main animation. Ryō Takahashi comes back to write the score. In 2022, the same personnel worked on the second season. The first season was directed by Kinji Yoshimoto in 2019 at Asread and White Fox studios.

In July 2019, the anime's first season debuted. Funimation provided a dub and English subtitled stream for the series. January 2022 saw the beginning of the second season. The anime was also streamed by Funimation.

Funimation described the story:

Hajime Nagumo and his high school class are suddenly summoned to a fantastical land as heroes. But while most of his classmates have powerful stats and abilities, Hajime does not. Underappreciated and unprepared, he tumbles into the depths of a monster-infested dungeon where voracity and sacrifice are his only options. To thrive in this savage world, he'll have no choice but to welcome the abyss.

The light novel series Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (Arifureta Shokugyo de Sekai Saikyo) by Ryo Shirakome served as the inspiration for the anime. Thirteen volumes of the series, serialised by Overlap from 2015 to 2022, featured drawings by Takayaki. Seven Seas Entertainment is the publisher of the English-language series, which J-Novel Club licenced. The third season of Arifureta will adapt the light novel's seventh volume. And the plot is described as:

With the battle at the capital settled, Hajime’s next destination is the Empire. Together with Liliana and Kouki, he takes to the skies with his newly built airship—only to discover that the Haulia have been fighting against both the empire and the demons, and that Verbergen has been sacked. Suddenly, Hajime has a new reason to head to Hoelscher’s capital!

Arifureta Zero, Shirakome's prequel spinoff novel series, is being published by J-Novel Club. In addition to licencing the spinoff manga Arifureta: I Love Isekai (Arifureta Nichijou de Sekaisaikyou) and Arifureta - From Commonplace to World's Strongest: Zero, Seven Seas has been releasing the manga version of the main series in print in English.

Shirakome first presented the book series on the user-submitted website Shōsetsu ni Narō before launching it under the OVERLAP Bunko label in June 2015 with illustrations by Takayaki.
