Solo Leveling English Dub Honors Cold Jinwoo Line Removed in Japanese Version

Solo Leveling Season 2 - Arise From the Shadow - released the highly anticipated English dub for Episode 2 (Episode 14 overall) yesterday, and it finally gave justice to a cold, memorable line from Sung Jinwoo that was surprisingly removed from the Japanese version. The English voice actor for Jinwoo, Aleks Le, shared a video of this iconic moment on X (formerly Twitter), along with a photo from the original manhwa to showcase the difference.

The key moment occurs when Kim Chul, furious, begins a countdown to three while walking toward the lower-ranked hunters. In both the original manhwa and the English dub, Jinwoo coldly interrupts the countdown with a sharp “4” before forcefully slamming Kim Chul to the ground. However, the Japanese version opted to leave this moment silent, which left many fans disappointed by the absence of such a powerful line.

Aleks Le discussed this choice in a recent post, explaining that the omission of the line in the Japanese version was likely due to timing constraints. However, both he and the voice director Caitlin Glass were adamant about keeping the line in the English dub. Le emphasized that the line was “just too cold” not to include, making it a standout moment for Sung Jinwoo's character development.

Solo Leveling's English voice cast for Season 2 - Arise From the Shadow includes:

  • Aleks Le as Sung Jinwoo
  • Rebecca Wang as Sung Jinah
  • Daman Mills as Barca
  • Emi Lo as Han Song-Yi
  • Patrick Seitz as Kim Chul
  • Trina Nishimura as Park Heejin
  • Geoff Bisente as Go Myunghwan
  • SungWon Cho as Woo Jinchul
  • Matthew David Rudd as Hwang Dongsoo
  • Ian Sinclair as Choi Jong-In
  • Kent Williams as Go Gunhee
  • Christopher R. Sabat as Baek Yoonho
  • Cory Yee as Ahn Sangmin
  • Anthony Bowling as Hyun Kichul

Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime, describing the second season as follows:
“Jinwoo has become a formidable necromancer with an army of loyal shadows at his command. But he must master these abilities while keeping them hidden from other hunters, all while racing against the clock to save his mother. As he faces humanity’s toughest foes, Jinwoo pushes his body and mind to the limit, and the full extent of his newfound power is revealed.”

In addition to the intense plot and character development, Solo Leveling was recently voted the most anticipated anime of Winter 2024 and won Best New Anime at the Winter 2024 Anime Awards. The second season has also been voted the most anticipated show of Winter 2025, ranking in the top 5 for all three weeks so far.

For anime fans eagerly awaiting the next episodes, this English dub adds another layer of excitement by staying true to the manhwa's original tone while delivering some cold, calculated moments that will leave a lasting impression.
