Knicks Star Reacts to Juan Soto’s Move to Mets

New York Knicks player Josh Hart was clearly taken aback by the news of Juan Soto’s move across New York City. The Knicks star, who is also a fan of the New York Yankees, didn’t hold back his feelings after hearing the announcement.

"Damn..." Hart posted on X, expressing his disappointment shortly after the news broke that outfielder Juan Soto would be joining the New York Mets. ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan reported late Sunday that Soto, a four-time All-Star, had signed a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, making it the largest deal in professional sports history. Soto had played for the Yankees after being traded from the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres, where he was part of the 2019 World Series championship team. At just 26, Soto has quickly become one of MLB's brightest stars, and his time with the Yankees was appreciated by many, including Hart.

During his time with the Yankees, Soto had one of his best seasons yet, hitting .288, blasting 41 home runs, and driving in 109 RBIs. He also led all of MLB with 128 runs scored and played a crucial role in the Yankees' postseason push, including hitting a series-clinching home run against the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Championship Series. The Yankees reached the World Series for the first time since 2009, though they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, Soto will be tasked with helping the Mets, who made a deep run to the National League Championship Series last season, though their hopes were also dashed by the Dodgers.

Hart, whose grand-uncle is Yankees legend Elston Howard, witnessed Soto’s contributions firsthand, even throwing out the first pitch in Howard’s jersey before a divisional game against Baltimore earlier this year. While Hart expressed his disappointment over Soto’s departure, he made it clear that his loyalty still lies with the Yankees, adding a follow-up post on X that read, "Still go Yanks!"

Soto will make his return to The Bronx on May 16 when the Mets face off against the Yankees in a three-game series.
