Noragami Anime reveals several projects for its tenth anniversary

Ten years of Noragami anime are being commemorated with seven new projects. Following a countdown that concluded on August 10, which is marked as Yato Day (Yato's birthday), the news was made. A joyful drawing by the original author, Adachitoka, was made available on the recently constructed website commemorating the tenth anniversary.

At this year's Anime Expo, Toshihiro Kawamoto unveiled the 10-year project and unveiled a sneak peek at the artwork. The Noragami anime's anniversary projects consist of:

  • Special 10th-anniversary visual (below)
  • Memorial Blu-ray Box – Releases on October 16, 2024; includes all episodes, OADs, special event footage
  • Free YouTube Broadcast of Season 1 – Limited time, creditless OP/ED will also be uploaded
  • Free YouTube Broadcast of Season 2 and Stage Play – Limited time, creditless OP/ED will also be uploaded
  • Animax 10th Anniversary Special – Broadcast of both seasons and all OADs
  • Yato Phone – Will be active until October 16
  • Special Illustrations/messages by the Author and the Anime Staff

Studio Bones produced an anime adaptation of the Noragami manga in 2014. Although there were twenty-five episodes in the first season, the last three were just filler. Noragami Aragoto, the follow-up, debuted in 2015. In addition, the anime includes four original animation DVDs (OAD) with original storylines that are absent from the book. The  first two take place between episodes 19 and 20 of the Aragoto, while the remaining two are set after the events of the second season.

The manga artist pair Adachitoka is the author and illustrator of Noragami: Stray God. The serialised series ran in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine from 2010 till 2024. 2014 saw an English licence granted by Kodansha USA. Additionally, Adachitoka created a fresh drawing of Yato for Yato Day:

As Kodansha puts it, the storyline is:

Yato is a homeless god. He doesn’t even have a shrine, not to mention worshippers! So to achieve his ambitious goals, he’s set up a service to help those in need (for a small fee), hoping he’ll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams. Of course, he can’t afford to be picky, so Yato accepts all kinds of jobs, from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies at school.
